Maryam Government Introduces Free Birth Certificates for Children Under 7 – A Major Public Relief Initiative

The Maryam Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has introduced a major public welfare initiative that brings great relief to families across the province. A new law has been announced that makes birth certificates for children completely free if obtained before the child turns seven years old.

What Was the Previous Policy?

Previously, getting a birth or death certificate came with fixed government fees:

 

For children under two years old, the birth certificate fee was Rs. 200.

 

If a child was older than two years and the certificate was applied for later, the fee increased to Rs. 400.

 

For a death certificate, charges ranged from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,200.

 

These fees made it difficult for some families to register births or deaths on time.

What Has Changed Now?

Under the new policy announced by CM Maryam Nawaz:

All children born from now on will get free birth certificates until they turn 7 years old.

 

For example, if a child is born in 2025, their birth certificate can be obtained any time until 2032 without any charges.

 

After the child turns 7, the standard Rs. 200 fee will be applicable again.

 

Benefits of the New Policy

 

Financial Relief for Families: No more fees for early registration means more families will be encouraged to register their children on time.

 

Simplified Process: After the birth of a child, the father can visit the local municipal committee to register the birth and receive the certificate quickly.

Access to Other Services: With a birth certificate:

Parents can easily apply for the child’s B-form (Child Registration Certificate).

Later, the child can also be issued a Smart National ID Card (CNIC).
